Take a look at these partial skyline and building views. The top one is Pudong, across the river from Shanghai (in 2006, no doubt it's changed by now.) The next three are around Jakarta, the three after that are high-rise apartment buildings in Bangkok.

Chicago, Houston and Minneapolis.Chicago has some fun old skyscrapers, and a few new ones with a sense of playfulness in the architecture, as does Minneapolis (the new ones that is), but for the most part, almost any developing Asian city is kicking our fat, lazy, slow American asses when it comes to fun, interesting, playful, exciting, innovative architecture. Increasingly our buildings just look like the boxes that all those new Asian buildings came in.
